Ellon Thistle v BSFC

Division Two East

Ellon Thistle finally recorded their first league win of the year with a 1-0 win over bottom side BSFC. The score line does not reflect Thistle's domination as they should have ran out comfortable winners. Captain Ryan Birnie, Steven Beaton and David Anderson all returned to the starting eleven after sitting out the midweek defeat to Kingseat at the expense of Richard Longmuir, Cammy Davidson and Mark Cockburn.

The home side took charge of the game from the kick-off and early chances fell to Billy Dailly and Martyn Duncan. Dailly was having a lot of joy down the left hand side as his marker found it difficult to cope with the striker's pace. He combined well with Anderson but the midfielder's effort failed to trouble the BSFC goalkeeper. Early indications suggested it would be another frustrating day in front of goal for Ellon as Martyn Duncan struck the crossbar from the edge of the box.

Despite most of the first half being played in the visitor's half, BSFC created the best chance of the first period. A mistake in the Thistle backline allowed a striker to run through on goal but somehow he managed to drag his shot wide.

Half-Time: Ellon Thistle 0 BSFC 0

The pattern of the first half continued into the second forty-five with Ellon looking the most likely to score but they persistently strived to walk the ball into the visitor’s goal. Moves involving many intricate passes on the edge of the box were soon cut short by the battling BSFC defence.

Ellon failed to capitalise on a number of dangerous corners from Anderson and Duncan but they did break the deadlock with twenty minutes remaining. A defensive error left Michael WILD with just the keeper to beat and he confidently lifted the ball into the net. Wild could have added his second minutes later when he beat one man and tried to round the goalkeeper but instead managed to run the ball out of play.

There was still time for some nervy moments at the other end as Dickinson pulled off a fine save and Cammy Davidson cleared off the line after a BSFC corner caused problems in the Thistle defence but the home side held on to record their first league victory since the end of December.
