Ellon Thistle v McTeagle
Division Two East
A blustery day at the Meadows and McTeagle were in town looking to condemn Ellon to their second defeat of the week.
Ellon could have, and probably should have been up within minutes when Jamie McNeil finished an intricate passing move by forcing a decent save from the keeper. McTeagle went in front after fifteen minutes when a Neil Henderson foul led to an expertly executed free kick which the number 9 placed into Adamson’s top right hand corner.
Michael Gibson was to feel the wrath of a Paul Ironside challenge, even though he was amongst the substitutes, when team mate Ironside lost his footing on the sideline and sent Gibson packing onto his rear end. Much to the appreciation of the Thistle support.
The amusement was short lived as The Jags were soon to have a two goal deficit to claw back after slack play on the right let in McTeagle’s left midfielder who fired in a low cross which the number 10 (a Gene Wilder look alike) had the simplest of tap ins.
David ANDERSON handed Thistle a lifeline right on forty five minutes when he grabbed one back with a superb twenty five yard bullet leaving the keeper absolutely no chance.
Half-Time: Ellon Thistle 1 McTeagle 2
The ball should have been in the McTeagle net straight after the restart when Ironside found himself in space only to see his header fly marginally over the bar.
Reinforcements were called upon as Steven Beaton and Mark Mathers were brought on to replace Ironside and Birnie respectively. Beaton found himself involved straight away when he rounded the keeper and when left with an empty goal staring at him, his legs were taking from him, but the ref deemed there to be no infringement much to the disgust of a raging Beaton.
There was only one chance left in the game when a Mike Wild header was sent wide from a mere three yards. An uncharacteristic miss from Wild who is usually so clinical inside the eighteen yard box.
So another defeat for The Jags in this “hot and cold” season. They might have had the bulk of possession but didn’t look dangerous enough in the final third.
