Monymusk v Ellon Thistle
Division Two East
Ellon were dealt a swift kick in the stones on Saturday when mid-table Monymusk left them gob smacked after taking them well and truly to the cleaners, and to be honest right from the off you could see the Jags were going to struggle, it was if some players had been taking a leaf out of Barry Ferguson’s book on getting inebriated.
It didn’t take the ‘Musk long to take the lead even though it was through deplorable refereeing. A penalty was awarded for a challenge that was clearly out of the box. But the referee gave the harsh spot kick. This unsurprising after his antics the last time he officiated an Ellon match at Insch earlier in the season.
Almost straight after he again showed his dislike of Thistle when he let a disgraceful bone shuddering challenge on Mikey Wild go unpunished. The ball was at least five yards away from the Ellon hitman when the attack on him was made.
A poor piece of defending from Anderson led to the home side doubling their lead. The defender was caught on the wrong side of the attacker. This game was looking like turning into the worst performance of the season, easily eclipsing the defeats to Rothie, McTeagle and A.R.I earlier in the season. It was scrappy with no direction and some players just looked uninterested.
Half Time: Monymusk 2 Ellon Thistle 0
With nothing to lose Ellon changed to three up front at the break and it wasn’t long until they found the net. Anderson did well in the middle of the park and fed Cockburn who crossed to McKEITCH who thumped home.
Then again step up to the plate referee. The most unbelievable piece of refereeing ever witnessed by this reporters eyes. After collecting the ball the keeper kicked out of his hands only to misfire off of Wilds back, the ball ending up over the keeper leaving Wild to tap in. The referee at this moment was looking up the field and not at the incident. But yet again Mr Anti-Thistle decided to infuriate the Ellon players, coaches and fans by disallowing the goal. To make matters worse he gave out three different reasons for disallowing it. No much wonder some referees are hated more than the tax man.
The third ‘Musk goal came from an error of judgement from Ellon keeper Adamson. The ball was swung in from the right and Adamson flapped like a humming bird with the ball landing on the head of the oncoming striker who found the empty net.
To add insult to injury, after denying the Monymusk striker a goal scoring opportunity by dropkicking him, Adamson was shown a red card and a second penalty was awarded. Callum Duncan deputised in goal but was left to pick the ball out of the net.
A disgraceful performance from the league leaders who got exactly what they deserved and that simply was hammered, (just like some of the players the night before).
